The $300m Corus christina Hotel will be the tallest hotel in the world, according to hotel developer and architect Michael Corus.
“It will be one of the most beautiful buildings in the city of Orlando and the world,” Corus said.
The $300 million project is designed to bring together two historic districts in downtown Orlando and will feature the tallest building in the US.
“I want it to be a symbol of the city and the city’s identity as a destination for people who want to be part of the Orlando community,” he said.
Corus has been designing buildings for over 20 years and said the Corus Christina Hotel was his first project in the area.
“We’re in the process of building a massive building in Orlando that will be a monument to our community and to the history of Orlando,” he told the Associated Press.
The Corus project will take its shape over the next two years, with plans to build the building on the site of a former pulp mill, which is expected to be completed by 2020.
“In this phase, the Coruses will bring the hotel to fruition,” said Corus, who said the hotel would feature a 1,200-room boutique hotel and retail space.
“A lot of people will go to Orlando for their vacation and for their wedding, but the hotel is going to be the perfect place for those who want a great hotel experience.”
Corus said that while he wanted to create an urban landmark that would be a part of a future tourism boom, it was a decision that was driven by the “real need to have a place to live in the heart of the community”.
“The people that live in Orlando will be able to go to the CorUS to have their wedding and celebrate with their friends,” he added.
Coruses company, Corus Inc, plans to use a combination of public and private investment to pay for the construction, with private funds likely to be used to pay the construction costs.
“Corus is focused on delivering an unparalleled hotel experience to its guests, with an urban architecture that reflects the spirit of the people of Orlando.
We are committed to creating a hotel that is a reflection of the heart and soul of Orlando, and we have the resources and the passion to bring it to life,” he wrote in a statement.”
This is our passion, and our commitment.”
